History of Star Trek Fan Campaigns
On April 12th, Star Trek Lower Decks fans everywhere were heartbroken when this Variety article let us know that Season 5 would be the last season of Lower Decks. But just because something was announced, doesn’t make it true - and if there is one group of nerds passionate enough to save their show, it is Star Trek fans.
We’ve done it before.
In the 60s, letter writing campaigns were the reason Those Old Scientists weren’t cancelled. Bjo Trimble, the woman who organized those campaigns, was even acknowledged by the official Star Trek site as “The Woman Who Saved Star Trek”.
They didn’t have the Internet, they had newsletters and they had fan clubs. We are so much more connected today, and we can use that to our advantage.
How to Participate
To effectively support our campaign to save "Star Trek: Lower Decks," consider reaching out respectfully to key executives at CBS Studios, Paramount+, and Netflix Animation through thoughtful letters, emails, and posts that express what the series means to you personally and to the broader community. In the case of Netflix, explain why you believe Netflix is the ideal platform to continue the journey of these beloved characters.
Utilize the hashtag #SaveLowerDecks in both your physical letters and digital posts to unify the campaign and increase its visibility. Engage with official social media accounts associated with Netflix Animation, as well as those related to Paramount and CBS Studios. Encourage a polite and passionate display of support by sharing stories, images, or messages that highlight the unique value and potential of "Lower Decks." This approach not only shows the depth of the show's support but also helps keep the conversation alive and visible in the public domain.
Consider joining public Lower Decks groups on social media platforms like Facebook, Reddit, and Discord to connect with other fans and share ideas for how to support the show. By working together, we can amplify our voices and demonstrate the strength of our community.
Last, watch Lower Decks ! If you are subscribed to Paramount+, watch Lower Decks on there. You can also buy the show on Blu-ray, which have extras not available on streaming platforms, such as cast & crew commentary on episodes.
